Born June 29, 1957 in Cienfuegos, Cuba. In 1962, when she was 5 years old, her parents Riccardo Alonso and Maria Conchita Bustillo moved to Venezuela.
Maria got into show business in 1971, having won the Miss Teenager of the World contest, and in 1975 took 5th place at the Miss World contest. After that, she became a top model and gained popularity in Venezuela as an actress and singer.
In 1979, she released the album Love Maniac, which went gold, and the song of the same name took first places on the music charts. This was followed by the equally successful albums The Witch and Dangerous Rhythm. The most popular among the Hispanic population was won by her song "Vamos a Bailar", which was written by the famous musician Giorgio Moroder as the soundtrack for the film "Scarface" .
The album Maria Conchita made Maria a real star, and in 1985 she was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Latin Artist. After that, Maria made her Hollywood debut in the film "Moscow on the Hudson", where her partner was Robin Williams. She then starred in popular films such as Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger, Predator 2 with Kevin Peter Hall, and House of the Spirits with Meryl Streep and Glenn Close.
Maria later starred in Kiss of the Vampire with Nicholas Cage, Colors with Sean Penn and starred in the 1995 Broadway musical Spider-Woman Kiss .
Maria Conchita Alonso participates in fundraising for charitable organizations. She is a staunch opponent of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, whom she considers a dictator. In 2008, she took part in the election campaign of John McCain.
