Full name - Haing Somnang Ngor.
Haing S. Ngor was born in Cambodia, trained as a doctor and worked as a surgeon for a long time. After the change of the country's political regime and the emergence of the so-called Democratic Kampuchea, educated people began to be ridiculed and persecuted, he was sent with his wife to a concentration camp, where his wife soon died. After the fall of the regime, in 1980, Ngor moved to the United States, but he could not be a practicing doctor there. Eight years after the move, he described the terrible events of his life in his homeland in the book "The Odyssey of a Cambodian."
In 1984, without any acting education, Haing S. Ngor made his first film appearance as a Cambodian journalist. The painting was called "The Fields of Death". His work was highly praised by critics, for this role Ngor received the most honorable film awards in existence, including Oscars, Golden Globes and BAFTAs. This was perhaps his greatest success as an actor, although Ngor subsequently appeared in thirty more films and shows, in some of which he played himself. His filmography includes such works as "The Iron Triangle", "Heaven and Earth", "Loving and Fighting", etc.
In 1990, the actor established a fund to help Cambodians.
On February 25, 1996, Ngor was gunned down in front of his Los Angeles apartment by members of a street gang. The reasons for the murder are rather dubious: the criminals did not take any of the valuables.
