Innokenty Smoktunovsky was born in a small Siberian village in 1925. Soon the family moved to Tomsk for a short time, and then settled in Krasnoyarsk. At school age, Innokenty studied for some time in a theater group. When his father went to war, the young man had to leave school in order to financially support the family. In 1943, Smoktunovsky studied at the infantry school in Kiev and was sent to the front. In the same year he was captured, but a month later Innocent managed to escape.

Smoktunovsky died in 1994 from a heart attack. He was buried in the capital's Novodevichy cemetery.
