Levy was born December 17, 1946 in Hamilton, Ontario to a Jewish family. My father was a foreman at an automobile plant. Eugene attended Westdale High School and graduated from McMaster University in 1969. He was vice president of the McMaster Bureau of Cinematography, a student organization where he met director Ivan Reitman. A former member of the comedy troupe "The Second City" and their SCTV television sketches, Levy often plays unusual characters with eccentric traits. His most famous role on SCTV is perhaps the wacky Earl Camembert, the SCTV News anchor. The celebrities Levy parodied on SCTV are Bud Abbott, Milton Berle, John Charles Daly, Gene Shalit, Jack Carter, Muammar Gaddafi, Tony Doe, James Caan, Lorne Greene, Rex Reed, Ralph Young, F. Lee Bailey, Ernest Borgnine, former Ontario Chief Investigator - Dr. Morton Schulman, Norman Mailer, Neil Sedaka, and Howard McNeer.
Eugene Levy is married to screenwriter Deborah Devine and together they have two children. Son - Dan Levy - former host of MTV's "Live" show and current host of "The After Show". Daughter - Sarah - is currently learning the basics of performing arts. Levy is an advocate of autism treatment and a close friend of John Candy (fellow Canadian Second City / SCTV), who died of myocardial infarction. In pop culture, the name Eugene Levy became famous thanks to the song "Eugene Levy Unbilled" by the New York band "Worst Case Ontario".
