Born August 15, 1945 in Moscow, in the family of the famous poet Sergei Vasiliev and Olympiada Vitalievna Makarenko (born 1920). Grand-niece of A. S. Makarenko.
In 1962 she entered VGIK (workshop of V.V.Belokurov), in 1967 she graduated from it and was accepted into the troupe at the theater. MN Ermolova, where she worked until 1970.
After graduating from the institute, Ekaterina Vasilieva also played her first leading roles in films: "The Soldier and the Queen", "Adam and Heva". In the very first roles, the actress's ability for a sharp, grotesque interpretation of images was manifested.
In 1970, Vasilyeva moved to work at the Sovremennik Theater, on the stage of which she performed until 1973, when she moved to the Moscow Art Theater.
