Born October 10, 1959, Madison, Wisconsin, USA is an American actor, screenwriter, producer, director, and political activist.

Whitford's ancestry includes English, Germans, Scots, Irish and Dutch. Many of its family branches stretch back to New England (Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont) in the 1600s. Whitford lived in Wayne, Pennsylvania from three to fourteen years old. In 1977 he graduated from Madison East High School, in 1981 - Wesleyan University, becoming a Bachelor of Arts, and in 1985 - the Juilliard School of Drama, where at various times such celebrities as Robin Williams, Kevin Spacey, Oscar studied Isaac, Jessica Chastain, William Hurt, Val Kilmer, Elizabeth McGovern, Wes Bentley and others

Whitford's first professional performance was in the production of Sam Shepard's The Curse of the Starving Class, opposite Katie Bates. Other theatrical works of the actor include Aaron Sorkin's Broadway production of A Few Good Boys, Three Days of Rain at the Manhattan Theater Club, Measure for Measure at Lincoln Center, and Coriolanus at the Folger Shakespeare Theater in Washington, DC.

Whitford appeared in several television shows and films early in his career before landing the role of Josh Liman on the NBC series The West Wing, which filmed from 1999 to 2005, throughout its broadcasting period. The show proved to be highly successful and critically acclaimed, with Whitford winning an Emmy in 2001 for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Drama Series. He was also nominated for an Emmy in 2002 and 2003, and was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2001-2003 and, along with the cast, won a US Actors Guild Award in 2001 and 2002.

In 2006-2007, Whitford starred in Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, which was closed after one season due to low ratings. Whitford's colleague on the show was Matthew Perry, now they are close friends. In 2010, he starred in the series Good Guys, also closed after one season. In addition to his regular work on television, he appeared in more than thirty films.

In 2013, Whitford began filming the ABC sitcom The Third Wife alongside Malin Ackerman and Marsha Gay Harden. The series has received praise from critics since its launch, but was not successful in the ratings. On May 8, 2014, the channel canceled the series after one season. Also, in 2013, Bradley Whitford was seen in the movie "Saving Mr. Banks" with Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson. In 2015, the actor received the second Emmy award in his career for his role in the TV series Obvious. In 2017, the hit "Get Out" was released, in which Whitford also played, and "The X-Files" by Steven Spielberg. In 2018, Whitford starred in The Handmaid's Tale.
