Dennis Quaid was born on April 9, 1954 in Houston (Texas, USA) in the family of an electrician William Rudy Quaid and a real estate agent Juanita Quaid. Dennis's older brother, Randy Quaid, is also an actor. Dennis graduated from Bellaire High School and studied theater at the University of Houston, but did not finish his studies and dropped out.
After leaving university, Dennis moved to Los Angeles. At first he worked as a waiter and a clown in an amusement park. Started his film career in 1975, starring in cameo roles. After his role in Breaking Away (1979), Dennis attracted the attention of film critics, and in 1983 earned their acclaim for his role as an astronaut in the movie The Right Stuff .
In 1984, Quaid starred in the fantasy film Escape from Sleep, where the main clairvoyant character tries to influence the nightmares of the US president.
