Born August 25, 1954, London, better known as Elvis Costello, is a British singer and composer who has greatly influenced the development of modern pop music. Initially a member of the pub rock scene, by the late 1970s he became one of the most popular artists of the new wave, and later gained a reputation as possibly the most influential singer-songwriter after Bob Dylan. Seven of Elvis Costello's albums were in the UK Top 20, while Brutal Youth (1994) climbed to # 2. The artist's most successful singles were "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down" (# 4, 1980) and "A Good Year for the Roses" (# 6, 1981).
