Todd was born in Los Angeles, California to actress Anne Morgan Gilbert and television writer George Eckstein. She made her television debut in the episode "Family," and then briefly appeared in the movie Rapid Change at Ridgemont High. From 1984 to 1989, Todd starred in the Showtime comedy series Brothers, for which she was twice nominated for a CableACE Award.
