August 3, 1905 - April 11, 1983 - Mexican actress who became popular in Hollywood during the silent film era. In 1921, at the age of 16, she married Jaim Martinez del Rio and, with the help of an American friend, the couple immigrated to the United States in hopes of starting a career in show business as a screenwriter and actress, respectively. At one party, she met a Hollywood producer, through whom her film career began. By that time, Dolores del Rio had already divorced her husband, but decided to keep his last name. She made her film debut in 1925 in the film Joanna .
In 1926, Dolores del Rio, along with Joan Crawford, Janet Gaynor, Mary Astor and Faye Ray, was included in the WAMPAS Baby Stars list. Her career continued to flourish throughout the rest of the silent film era, and was considered one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood. In 1930 Dolores del Rio married Cedric Gibbons, one of MGM's art directors. With the advent of talkie, she was initially hired only for supporting roles of exotic women, but she again achieved success after the release of the film "Bird of Paradise" in 1932. Then she had notable roles in the films "Flight to Rio" (1933) and "In Caliente" (1935) .

In 1941, she divorced her husband because of an affair with Orson Welles, who was ten years her junior, and in 1943 she starred in his film Journey into Fear. The actress also maintained good friendships with Mexican artists Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo, as well as many Mexican filmmakers. In 1942 she returned to Mexico, where she continued her career as an actress in Mexican films, the most famous of which were Maria Candelaria (1944) and The Fugitive (1947). She has been nominated many times for the Silver Ariel Mexican Film Awards and won it four times. In 1959, Dolores married American theater businessman Lewis Riley. In 1960, she starred opposite Elvis Presley in The Burning Star, and four years later appeared in John Ford's Autumn of the Cheyenne. In the 1950s and 1960s, she starred in many classic theatrical productions such as Anastasia (1956) and Ladies Man (1958). The last film role of the actress was in the film "Children of Sanchez" (1978), where one of the roles was played by Anthony Quinn. Dolores del Rio died on April 11, 1983 from liver disease in Newport Beach, California. After her death, she was cremated, and her ashes were buried in the Dolores Pantheon in Mexico City on the territory of the "Rotunda of Illustrious Creators" .
For her contributions to the film industry, Dolores received a Star on the 1620 Hollywood Walk of Fame at Vine Street.
