Born 1960 - English screenwriter, producer and director.
He was a member of the Sound Engineers Union, working in England in the 1980s when film productions were staunchly hierarchical. While working as a sound engineer on a series of films about the infamous strike of miners in England, Heller met the famous Portuguese director Eduardo Guedes. The two teamed up in what would be Heller's first screenplay, the 1994 film Pax, starring Amanda Plummer (pax is an acronym for Portuguese headstone epitaphs) .
He left England for New York, where he met his wife, Miranda, at a disco. After five years in the city, Heller moved to Los Angeles, where he worked on various television dramas, including two projects for the USA Network, Touch of Evil and The Huntress. But his breakthrough came with Rome, where he is a co-creator. After the show was canceled due to its high cost, Heller created The Mentalist. In September 2012, it was reported that Heller sold the legal drama The Lawyers to CBS, where he was a screenwriter and executive producer, but the project ultimately ceased to exist in May 2013. He is currently the creator and writer of a television series based on the James Gordon character called Gotham for the Fox Broadcasting Company.
