Mother - Phyllis Cassidy, hairdresser; father - Dermot Cassidy, a civil servant. While attending school, Elaine often participated in theatrical performances. Since 1994 she started acting in films. In 2001 she was recognized as one of the new stars of European cinema.
Since December 31, 2007 Elaine has been married to actor Stephen Lord (b. 1972). The couple have two children - daughter Kyle Lord-Cassidy (born September 16, 2009) and son Lynott Lord-Cassidy (born January 23, 2013).
