Born 1961 in Cambridge, UK is an American director of animation and feature films. Great-grandson of H.G. Wells.

He received his professional education at the Polytechnic Institute of Leicester, where he studied audiovisual design.

Then the artist started working for the animation studio of Richard Williams. Wells's first big-screen work was to take part in the making of Robert Zemeckis' Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), where he was one of the main animators. Wells also collaborated with Zemeckis on the sequels to Back to the Future.

From 1989 to 1995, the artist worked at Steven Spielberg's London studio Amblimation, where he shot three full-length cartoons: American Fairy Tale 2: Favel Goes West (1991), We Are Back! A Dinosaur Story "(1993) and" Balto "(1995). In 1995, Simon Wells moved to the United States and became an employee of the animation division of DreamWorks SKG, where in 1998, together with Brenda Chapman and Steve Hickner, he directed the cartoon Prince of Egypt. Wells also wrote the script for the sequel to Casper, but the project was canceled.

In 2002, Simon Wells directed the feature film, directing the big-budget sci-fi feature Time Machine, based on the book of the same name by his great-grandfather. In 2011, at Disney studios, the director made the animated film Mystery of the Red Planet from his own script, which was produced by Robert Zemeckis.

Wells is also the storyboard artist for many DreamWorks Animation SKG animation films.
