Born in London, son of Ethel M. (Ni Korenman), aka Ethel Drew, and famous actor Wilfrid Hyde-White. He grew up in Palm Springs, California and attended Palm Springs High School and Georgetown University in Washington DC for one year, after which he left to pursue an acting career. Hyde-White was married to actress Karen Dotrice, daughter of actor Roy Dotrice from 1986 to 1992. He is now married to Shelley Hyde-White and they live in Santa Monica, California. They have two children - Harry and Jack.
Under a contract with Universal Pictures at the age of 18, his first television work consisted of only one line in the series "Quincy ME".
