Born March 31, 1950 in New York - American actor.
Marinaro's football career began at school in New Milford, New Jersey. There he played for the New Milford High School Knights. Enrolling after high school at Cornell University, Ed did not give up playing football and even managed to break 16 NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) records during his college game. He became the first-ever running back to run 4,000 yards in his career. In 1971, Marinaro became the silver medalist of the Heisman Trophy, losing the main prize to Pat Salivan. But this award has also become the highest achievement for an Ivy League player since the League relaxed its patronage of football in its member colleges in the mid-50s. In 1951, Princeton Dick Kasmamer became the last to win the trophy, while the League was still considered the main football association. In the same year, Ed Marinaro won the Maxwell Award and became the UPI College Football Player of the Year Award. Marinaro still holds 2 NCAA records: most points per yards in a season (39.6 in 1971) and in a career (34.0, 1969-70) .
While Marinaro was in college he was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity and was selected to be a member of the Sphinx Head Society.
In professional football, Marinaro played 6 seasons, playing for such teams as the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets and Seattle Seahawks. Participated in Super Bowl VIII and IX (Super Ball 8 and 9) with Vikings. He has hit 13 touchdowns in his professional football career. In 1991, Marinaro's accomplishments were immortalized in the college football hall of fame. After Marinaro left football, he became an actor. He has appeared on several television series including The Edge of Night, Laverne & Shirley, Hill Street Blues, and The Sisters. He also starred in the 2006 film Circus Island and also starred in the acclaimed TV series Blue Mountain State.
