January 22, 1946, Stoke Newington, London, England, UK - April 8, 2010, Bellinzona, Ticino, Switzerland - British musician, composer, actor, director, screenwriter and producer.

When McLaren was six, his mother remarried, but his relationship with his stepfather did not work out.

In his youth, he changed many professions and repeatedly entered art schools, but never graduated from one. Then he began to create his own clothing models. In the late 1960s, McLaren became interested in the ideology of Situationism, a movement that emerged from Marxism, but attracted by the declaration of provocative, absurd actions.

In 1971, McLaren, together with the designer Vivienne Westwood, whom he met at the time, opened the Let It Rock boutique (1971-1973), later renamed Too Fast to Live, Too Young to Die (1973-1974), then SEX (1974-1976). The boutique focused on the renaissance of the teddy boy subculture was popular.

In 1974, McLaren traveled to New York, where he met the glam punk band New York Dolls. McLaren became their manager for a short time. The provocative image that McLaren imposed on the group (including Soviet symbols) contrasted with the already established image of the group and did not bring success. In 1975 the New York Dolls began to disband and McLaren returned to London. Subsequently, the musicians of the New York Dolls spoke disparagingly about McLaren's work.

After his return, McLaren decided to change the orientation of the boutique. The main product of the store is BDSM paraphernalia and fetish fashion items, including those created by Vivienne Westwood.

Around 1974, McLaren became manager of the group that would later become known as the Sex Pistols.

Sex Pistols' first single Anarchy in the UK was released on EMI in November 1976.

In October 1977, the album Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols was released; in January of the following year, a not very successful tour of the United States took place, immediately after which the group disbanded.

After the Sex Pistols disbanded, McLaren became the manager of Adam and the Ants.

McLaren's first solo album, Duck Rock, was released in 1983.

McLaren's subsequent work was characterized by an eclectic mixture of styles. From time to time, his singles hit the British and European charts.

In October 2011, the Malcolm McLaren Prize was established in the United States to honor the authors of "the most innovative and profound works of contemporary art."
