In addition to his solo career, Burnett has produced artists such as Counting Crows, Tony Bennett, kd lang. He is the recipient of a Grammy Award for his collaboration with Alison Krauss and Robert Plant. Was nominated for an Oscar for the soundtrack to Cold Mountain. He is the founder of the DMZ label.
Wrote the music for True Detective and Mister Mercedes.
Burnett worked as guitarist on Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue concert tour, after which he formed The Alpha Band with two other tour participants.
