Babylon AD became the first hard rock band to sign with Arista Records, and their debut album, titled Babylon AD, entered the Billboard 200 Top 100 (# 88, 1989). This was followed by the single "Bang Go The Bells" and the composition "The Kid Goes Wild", recorded with the participation of the famous comedian Sam Kinison and used on the soundtrack to the movie "Robocop 2"; these releases also boosted the band's popularity.
