Delgado was born to the sound of the bells of London's St Mary-le-Bow Church. Later, his close friend John Pertwee claimed that this made Delgado a true Cockney. His mother was Belgian and his father was Spanish. Delgado attended Cardinal Voen Catholic School. He has worked extensively on the British stage and on TV, film and radio. He appeared in the 1955 BBC television series Quatermass II, played a role in the war drama Battle of the River Plate (1956), and gained public attention in England when he played the Spanish envoy Mendoza at WTC Entertainment in Sir Francis Drake. ”(1961/62), after which it was in great demand among directors; Delgado has often played villains, appearing in many British television adventure series, including The Champions (1969), The Dangerous Man (1961), The Saint (1962, 1966) and Randall & Hopkirk (1969). He made a total of 16 guest appearances on the ITC Show. He also appeared in The Avengers (1961, 1969), The Power Game (1966) and Crossfire (1967) .
He began filming Doctor Who in late 1970. His first appearance was in January 1971 in the adventure Terror of the Autons. Subsequently, he played the role of the Master in many episodes. With the third Doctor, including The Mind of Evil, The Claws of Axos, Colony in Space, The D?mons, The Sea Devils, The Time Monster and Frontier in Space. The Master's story was supposed to end in The Final Game. But the episode did not come out and was redone after the sudden death of the actor. Only after some time the hero Delgado - the Master was returned to the series. Since then, the role has been played by several actors, most notably Anthony Ainley, Derek Jacoby and John Simm. Roger Delgado died in Turkey while filming his first comedic role in The Bell of Tibet. He crashed along with two Turkish film technicians when the driver lost control and the car in which the actor was traveling flew off the road into a ravine. He died at 55. Delgado's death was one of the reasons for John Pertwee's departure from Doctor Who.
