Holt McCallany was born in New York in 1964. He spent his childhood in Ireland, however, after the divorce of his parents, the boy returned to the United States. First appeared on stage in a school production in the second grade. When Holt was fourteen, he was expelled from school. McCallany ran away from home and went to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of an acting career. That time nothing came of it - the young man could only get a job as a worker. Soon his parents found him and sent him to an Irish boarding house, in which he nevertheless received his education.
After graduating from school, Holt moved to Paris and began studying performing arts at the Marcel Marceau School. After completing the course, the aspiring actor went to New York and began acting in Broadway productions. His film debut took place in 1987 in the film Kaleidoscope of Horror 2. Soon he also starred in the films Extortion, After School, War Losses, Alien 3, Zelda. In 1993 Holt McCallany's filmography was supplemented by the comedy In Search of One-Eyed Jimmy. She became the first picture in which he played a central role.
To date, the actor has worked on more than 60 films. Among them are such paintings as Fight Club, Three Kings, Alpha Dog, Perfect Escape, Tyson, Military Diver, Peacekeeper, Point of Fire, Depth, Gangster Hunters. McCallany is mainly invited to play the role of minor characters.
The actor also starred in episodes of the television series Criminal Minds, CS I: Miami, Consciousness, Defective Detective, CS I: Crime Scene, Black Mark, The Medium. In 2011, Holt starred in the TV series Put Out the Lights, which is based on the story of the former heavyweight champion.
