Born 1972, Dublin, Ireland - Irish film director, screenwriter, composer and actor.

He was the bassist for the Irish rock band TheFrames between 1991 and 1993 and also directed some of their music videos. In addition to shooting music videos, Carney also wrote and directed two award-winning short films (Shining Star and Hotel) before making his first feature-length feature. Together with Tom Hall, Carney wrote and directed his first feature film, November Noon, in 1996. Despite its limited release, it was voted "Film of the Year" by the Irish Times. Carney's next film was the edgy drama Park, which premiered at the Dublin Film Festival. Carney and Tom Hall again wrote and co-directed together. The film was released in 1999 but did not gain much popularity.

Two years later, in 2001, Carney was involved in the writing and filming of Onthe Edge. The film stars Cillian Murphy and Stephen Rea and was released by Universal Studios. In the US, the film was released under the title "Catchthe Sun". In 2003, he co-directed and wrote Zonad with Ciaran Carney and Tom Hall. In 2006, Carney directed the musical drama "Once". The film was first presented at the Galway Film Fleadh, the official world release took place at the Sun dance Film Festival in January 2007 and won the Audience Choice Award in the drama category. With a budget of only $ 160,000, "Once" received $ 7 million in box office receipts worldwide in the first 3 months of the show.
