Born November 24, 1956, Lackawanna, New York, USA - American actor, playwright and director.
His father was Puerto Rican and his mother was African American. He studied at Lackawanna High School. He earned a bachelor's degree from Binghamton University and a master's degree from Wayne University. Holds an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from Buffalo State College.
Wrote Lacawan Blues, an autobiographical play in which he portrayed himself and about twenty different characters from the past. This play was staged in New York. The author's work received high marks, and in 2005 he himself was awarded the HBO Film and Emmy awards.
