Quarashi is a special musical group from mysterious Iceland. They are a flamboyant four who are confidently making their way to fame in musical circles, proving that Icelandic hip-hop deserves attention and recognition.
The name of the group Quarashi is translated from Icelandic as supernatural, which clearly characterizes the essence of the group. The group was founded by young guys Solvi and Hossi in 1986 in Reykjavik. The musicians have been friends since childhood and jointly participated in the same punk band project before Quarashi was founded. Solvi and Hossi began to actively promote hip-hop culture, which in the mid-1990s was not yet so popular, and even more so in the Icelandic land of elves and geysers. Quarashi combined hip-hop, electronica and heavy metal, they were creative outside the box, free and at ease.
After a while, Solvi and Hossi were joined by the third member of the group - Steini Fjelsted, Icelandic skateboarding champion and a well-known graffiti artist. It was Solvi who inspired the band to name Quarashi. The guy used this word more than once in his bright graffiti. Stainey and Hossi took on MC roles, rapped and wrote lyrics, while Solvi was the producer. In 2000, Omar, a good friend of Solvi, joined the group, and the group was finally completed.
Quarashi's trademark is their debut album Xeneizes (1999) and their equally famous Jinx (2002). After the albums were released, the band was invited to play a live show in New York. The guys worked so hard that the stage monitors could not withstand the stress, this is energy and drive in its purest form. Following the release of the Jinx album, the band embarked on the American Warped Tour.
Quarashi are not like other bands, only their texts can be full of literary images on the theme of Dorian Gray or Mussolini and not lose their drive. The work of the group has a special Icelandic charisma that conquered listeners all over the world.
