Born May 20, 1978 in Salem, Massachusetts is an American film director, screenwriter, producer, cameraman and composer.

Flanagan entered Towson University. Educated in the field of cinema, theater and media arts. In his early years he tried to edit videos on VHS on his own, while in school at Archbishop Spalding High School in Severna Park Flanagan participated in the school drama club and was president of the SGA. He also created morning TV clips for school and short videos for students.

In 2000, after graduating from university, at the age of 21, Flanagan began his film career with the film "Makebelieve", shot by him according to his own script. This was followed (in 2001) by Still Life, which won an award at the Baltimore Festival. He also wrote the music for these two films on his own.

Mike then became a television producer for Discovery and ESPN in 2002 and began writing the script for his next film, Ghosts of Hamilton Street, which was released in 2003. The film stars Scott Graham (whom Mike met at university), Zach Jeffries and Christine Carter.

A year later, Flanagan acted as director of photography on the horror film Sally with the Chainsaw, directed by fellow director and screenwriter Jimmio Berril. After the film's premiere, Mike moved from Baltimore to Los Angeles, where he worked as an editor for several television programs for National Lampoon Networks.

In 2005, Flanagan decided to turn to the horror genre and took on the creation of the short film "Oculus: Chapter 3 - The Man with the Plan", which he turned into a full-length film over the years. The first experience in a similar genre turned out to be interesting for the director, and he continued to work in this direction. In 2010, the feature film "Absence" was completed, starring Katie Parker and Courtney Bell. In 2013, he completed work on the full-length version of The Oculus and two years later presented his new film Somnia to the audience, which premiered on March 5, 2015. The film stars American actors Thomas Jane and Kate Bosworth.
