She received her cinematic education at La Femis Film School, where she was mentored by Xavier Beauvois.
In 2007, Schiamma made her debut with the full-length film Water Lilies - the story of a 15-year-old girl in love with a peer - the captain of the synchronized swimming team. The film was selected for the program of the Cannes Film Festival "Unusual Regard", received the Louis Delluc Prize and three nominations for the French national film "Cesar".
