In 2017, the director's new film, Foxtrot, received the Silver Lion Grand Prix at the 74th Venice Film Festival. The picture is a family tragedy, the plot is divided into three acts. In the third part, the author summarizes his view of the evolution of pain and hatred in the Israeli collective consciousness, leading to spiritual fatigue. In Israel, the tape caused mixed responses, because the army is one of the most respected institutions in this country. Maoz replies that there cannot be a prosperous country where critics are declared traitors, and that he personally takes the position that he takes because he feels pain for his homeland and acts for the love of her.
