May 30, 1974, New York, USA - February 15, 1999, Harlem, Manhattan, New York, USA, better known by his creative pseudonym Big L, is an American rapper.
Coleman earned the nicknames "Little L" and "mont 'mont" as a child. At the age of 12, Coleman became a big fan of hip-hop and began participating in freestyle battles in his area. In 1990 he founded Three The Hard Way, but the group quickly disbanded due to lack of enthusiasm from the other members. It was around this time that people started calling him Big L. In 1991, Coleman learned that Lord Finesse had arranged an autograph session at a record store in his neighborhood. He went there and persuaded Finesse to give him the one and only chance to show his skills.
Coleman began writing lines in 1990. In 1991 he founded the Harlem rap group Children of the Corn with Killa Cam, Murda Mase and Bloodshed.
In 1996, Columbia canceled Coleman's contract mainly due to disagreements over his style of performance.
In 1998, Coleman formed his own independent label, Flamboyant Entertainment.
