As a teenager, she began her theater career, making her debut in the Broadway musical Fiddler on the Roof. In subsequent years, she found steady work as a singer in nightclubs, performed in cabarets, and in 1977 was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for the production of Threepenny Opera .
Greene achieved her greatest success thanks to her role in the 1982 musical "The Shop of Horrors" and the 1986 movie of the same name.
