In 1946, Francesca moved to Brazil with her family, but 6 years later she returned to England, where she received her education.
Francesca made her film debut in 1959, playing the role of Sylvia in The Cat Gang. In 1978, Annis played the role of Lilly Langtree in the miniseries Lilly, for which she won a BAFTA TV (1979) Best Actress nomination. In total, she played in 97 films and television series.
