Born June 5, 1956, Pretoria, Union of South Africa (South Africa) - English director, producer, actor and screenwriter.
Studied at Clifton College, then at Queens College, Cambridge, graduating in 1977. Immediately after graduation, Michell moved to London, where he began to study at the famous Royal Court Theater, in particular, he was an assistant to the famous playwrights-screenwriters John Osborne and Samuel Beckett, and helped producer Danny Boyle. Michell left Royal Court in 1979 to write and direct his own theater projects. In 1982, Michell won the Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival for his play Private Dick. In 1985, Michell joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, where he worked as an assistant director and then director for six years.
In 1992 Michell made his first TV directorial appearance in the miniseries Business District of Lagos, and in 1997 he made his debut as a filmmaker in My Night with Reg.
In the early 2000s, Michell was approved to direct the film Captain Corelli's Choice, but shortly before starting work he had a heart attack, so the director was entrusted to John Madden.
