The Romantics is an American rock band from Detroit, Michigan. The group is called "The Romantics" because they were organized on Valentine's Day, 1977. The Romantics achieved some popularity in the United States, Canada, parts of Asia, Australia, Europe, and Latin America in the first half of the 1980s. The group is remembered for their energetic songs and stylish, catchy music videos. Influenced in the 1960s by British Invasion (especially the music of the Kinks, The Who, The Beatles, HOLLIES and the Rolling Stones), in the 1970s by Detroit's garage rock and hard rock (such as like Iggy Pop, The Stooges, MC5 and Rationals), and punk rock The Ramones The Romantics plays a more pop-oriented variation on punk rock known as "power pop". The group is also usually categorized as "New Wave".
