Born on February 12, 1938 in Rio de Janeiro, he began composing and performing songs in the late 1960s. He made his debut in 1967 at a music festival held by a TV company with the song "Menina Moca". When in 1969 he was first invited to the studio to record a disc, he at first refused: “I am a composer, I am not a singer. I just want to write for other artists. " But he was persuaded - and the young Martinho recorded the first disc. His unperturbed, even, warm voice combined with respectful humor has ensured his success on the Brazilian music scene for over three decades.
