American jazz fusion group, founded in 1974 by Dan Kuramoto. The debut album was released in 1979. Named after the Japanese city of Hiroshima, it is the most famous ensemble that brings the fusion of Japanese music and other forms of world music to their game. Their early jazz-pop R&B sound gave the group a huge following among the African American community, and they are regarded as musical pioneers among Asian Americans and Japanese Americans.
