British techno band. In 1989, Steve Beckett and Rob Mitchell, owners of the small Sheffield-based music store Warp Records, decided that the acid and techno movement in England had reached the point where it could be safely commercialized. On the basis of the store, they opened a small independent label, which was supposed to publish domestic imitators of Detroit and Chicago.
