Born March 12, 1948, Boston, Massachusetts is an American folk musician and songwriter who in the 1970s (according to Allmusic) embodied the very concept of a singer-songwriter. Taylor, first known for his hits "Fire and Rain" (# 3 US, 1970) and "You've Got a Friend" (# 1, 1971, composition by Carol King), achieved his highest commercial achievement with the compilation Greatest Hits, which sold in the USA with 12 million circulation and received "diamond" status. James Taylor - five-time Grammy Award winner; in 2000 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
