Born April 26, 1967 - British actress, singer, composer, director and screenwriter.

Educated at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, after which she played on the stage of the Royal National Theater. International success was brought to her by the social drama Secrets and Lies (1996), for her role as Hortense Cumberbatch, in which she was nominated for the Golden Globe, BAFTA and Academy Awards, becoming the first black British actress to be nominated for an American film academy.

Other notable films with her participation include "28 Days" (2000), "Cage" (2000), "Spy Games" (2001), "City of Amber: Escape" (2008) and "The Raider Boys" (2010). She also starred in the television series "Without a trace" (2002-2009), playing the role of FBI special agent Vivienne Johnson. In addition to her acting career, Marianne Jean-Baptiste recorded an album of blues songs and also composed the musical score for the drama "Careerists" in 1997.

Since 1997 the actress has been married to British ballet dancer Evan Williams, from whom she gave birth to two daughters.
