American rock band, formed in 1986 in Los Angeles, California. fIREHOSE - Mike Watt, George Hurley (both former Minutemen) and singing guitarist Ed Crawford (also known as Ed fROMOHIO) - performed soft post-punk with progressive, hard rock, jazz and folk elements; were “unpredictable and unpretentious” and were “in constant evolution, willingly heading in whatever direction their muse prompted them to” (Trouser Press). fIREHOSE announced their disbandment in 1994, remaining in the history (according to Allmusic) of one of the most interesting American indie bands of the 1980s and 1990s.
