Born on July 8, 1942, the city of Kungur, Perm region.
Director, screenwriter, producer.
From 1958 he worked in production at the Central Television, from 1961 to 1964. served in the Soviet Army. In 1974 he graduated from the directing department of VGIK (workshop of G. N. Chukhrai and V. V. Belokurov).
Since 1973, R. Yu. Fruntov worked at the Mosfilm film studio, where he made his debut with the short feature film Shcheglovo Station (based on the story of the same name by S. Antonov), a prize and diploma of the Mosfilm Youth Film Festival (1975). The first full-length film directed by R. Fruntov "Tactics of long distance running (jointly with E. Vasiliev, scored by G. Klimov) was awarded the Silver Medal at the VI All-Union Film Festival in Leningrad (1978).
