Yannis Smaragdis - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips.
Born on the island of Crete in 1946, in the city of Heraklion. Studied cinematography in Greece and Paris, France. He made his debut in 1972 with the short film "??? ???? ???????? ...", which won first prize at the Athens Film Festival and a special prize at the Montreal Film Festival. Yannis Smaragdis teaches a course in media, directing and screenwriting at the Pantheon University of Athens. He published two books, Poetic Geography (1995) and Cavafy (1997), literary forms of a script for a film dedicated to Constantinos Cavafy.
