Born October 14, 1978, Dallas, Texas, USA - American singer, songwriter, dancer, actor, producer and director.
Most of his childhood was spent in Chattanooga, his father left them when Asher was one year old, he grew up with his mother, stepfather and half-brother James Leek. At the age of nine, he joined the children's choir at the local church in Chattanooga, run by his mother. At the same time, his grandmother noticed his ability to sing, but they did not consider singing professionally until he joined the local R&B group NuBeginnings. However, the mother considered that his talent could be lost in the ensemble and took him away from the group. Convinced that the big city would provide more opportunities for discovering his talent, the family moved to Atlanta, where there were more comfortable conditions for aspiring singers. While living in Atlanta, Usher attended North Springs High School.
At the age of 10 he joined the NuBeginnings quintet, which was organized by local music promoter Darryl Wheeler.
At the age of 13, he took part in a local talent show in Atlanta, where he attracted the attention of music scout A.J. Alexander. Alexander, who was also Bobby Brown's bodyguard at the time, took Usher to local talent shows.
After leaving school, Asher began work on his second album, which was released on September 16, 1997. The single "You Make Me Wanna" from that album was Usher's first single to reach # 1 on the UK charts and went gold and platinum in the US.
In 1998, Usher founded the Usher's New Look Foundation.
In 2002, Asher founded his own label, US Records. He also launched a line of perfumes for men and women.
Asher Raymond is one of the most commercially successful African American R&B musicians. Winner of eight Grammy Awards, four World Music Awards, four American Music Awards and nineteen Billboard Music Awards. In 2010, Glamor magazine included him in the list of 50 sexiest men.
