Rolf Ake Mikael Nykvist was born on November 8th 1960 in Stockholm, Sweden. Born into a family of an Italian and a Swede, however, the couple quickly got rid of the child, handing it over to an orphanage. Mikael was adopted shortly thereafter and lived with a foster family. Foster parents early noticed the young Mikael's talent for parodying and frequent performances in the living room in front of a small family audience, after which they sent him to a drama circle so that he could communicate with peers whose hobbies coincide with his, and rather adapted to the new team. At school he took part in performances and plays, for which he received the nickname "prince".

At the age of 17, Mikael Nyquist takes part in a student exchange program and travels to Omaha, Nebraska, where he meets eminent theatrical figures, attends an acting class and gains a lot of experience. Returning back to Sweden, Mikael enrolls in a ballet school, which he leaves a year later, and enters the theater academy, after which he works in the theater. He spends all his free time at rehearsals, pays a lot of attention to work. After the next performance, he received an invitation to star in a cameo on television, to which Mikael willingly agrees. So it was the debut in front of the movie camera. At first, the roles of Mikael Nyquist on television were insignificant and secondary, but over time his skills improved and he began to be noticed. In 2000, Mikael played his first major role in the film Together, for which he received worldwide recognition and demand. Over the next ten years, Mikael took part in various projects, most often playing supporting characters. The last film with Mikael Nyquist is called John Wick.
