May 1, 1917, Tver - December 3, 2012, Moscow - Soviet and Russian animator, director, screenwriter, teacher, translator. In 1936, in Moscow, the young man graduated from the OGIZ art college; later studied at the Institute for Advanced Studies of Graphic Artists (workshop of Nikolai Vysheslavtsev). After watching W. Disney's cartoons at the I Moscow International Film Festival (1935), he became interested in animation and, on the advice of an artist friend, decided to enter the Soyuzmultfilm studio, but for a long time he was refused. In November 1937, Fyodor Khitruk began working as a trainee cartoonist, and in 1938 - as an animator at the Soyuzmultfilm studio. In August 1941, after the start of the Great Patriotic War, he was sent to study at the Institute of Foreign Languages, evacuated to Stavropol-on-Volga, for six months. After training, Fedor served as an interpreter at the headquarters of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, commanded a radio intercept platoon of the 17th Air Army. After the war, Fyodor Khitruk worked as a military translator in Berlin for two years, and then returned to Soyuzmultfilm .

In 1980-2003 he taught at the Higher Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors, where "he was one of the initiators of the creation of a department for the training of animation directors." Since 1995 he has been the Honorary President of the Golden Fish International Animated Film Festival. From 1996 to 2000, he was the honorary president of the Russian Animated Film Association. During his long career, Fyodor Khitruk was awarded many cinematic awards and prizes. Academician of the Russian Academy of Cinematic Arts "Nika". Honorary Professor of VGIK (2002). In April 1993, Khitruk and three other leading animators (Yu. B. Norshtein, A. Yu. Khrzhanovsky, and E. V. Nazarov) founded the Shar animation studio school .
F. Khitruk was one of the compilers of the international dictionary of animation terms. Until his death he lived in Moscow. Wife - animator Maria Leonidovna Motruk (1916-1984). Son - musicologist Andrey Fedorovich Khitruk (born 1944), piano teacher at the Gnesins State Music College, Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation. Granddaughter - American violinist Anastasia Khitruk (born 1975), daughter of Andrey Khitruk and pianist Elena Aramovna Tatulyan (born 1943).
