First appeared on the screen in the cameo role of the Cemetery Zombie in George Romero's film Night of the Living Dead. His character in this film can be considered the first zombie eater of flesh, since it was his character who first appeared on the screen of all zombies. He also co-produced the film (for which he got the role). The role of the Cemetery zombie is considered his most famous and frightening role, and the character himself has become a cult in the circles of fans of both the picture and the zombie horror of the 60s, etc.
Since Night, William has been involved in films such as The Legion of Night, in which he played Dr. Bloom, as well as in 1996's Santa Claus and Drunken Dead Guy (2005).
