The group was formed in 1990 in the UK. Organized by the Catherine Wheel (the name of a medieval torture device) Rob Dickinson, cousin of former Iron Maiden lead vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The first demo tape was recorded, according to the vocalist and guitarist, "out of boredom", but what happened attracted fans not only of hard rock, but also of the "new alternative" (in 1990, another drummer, Great Yarmout). In 1991 the band recorded their first mini-album, She's My Friend, which was released by the independent label Wilde Club. The lively yet harsh and aggressive music of the new group attracted the attention of major British entrepreneurs, and in the fall of 1991 the Catherine Wheel toured extensively, accompanying Blur and the Charlatans. At the end of the same 1991, the band signed a contract with the major company Fontana Records, which released their first LP, Ferment, 1991. In 1993, the Catherine Wheel released the album "Chrome" (taking into account the psychedelic elements that appeared in the compositions of this disc, it can be assumed that the musicians named the disc after the American band Chrome). Two new singles "Waydown" and "God Inside My Head" formed the basis for the third disc - "Happy Days", which was released in the summer of 1995 - this album is much more rock and roll than any previous work of Catherine Wheel. that the musicians named the disc after the American band Chrome).
