Born in Colorado Springs on October 17, 1886. Her father, Edwin Lee Byinton, was a respected professor and manager of schools in Colorado. After his death in 1891, his wife and mother Spring and her sisters Helen sent their daughters to live with their parents in Port Hope, Ontario.
