New Zealand film director, screenwriter and producer. Born October 31, 1961 in Pukerua Bay, Wellington, New Zealand.
At the age of eight, he received his first super 8mm film camera for his birthday and began filming short films with his friends. At the same time, according to his own statement, he first saw the famous film "King Kong" (1933), and the desire to make a remake of this picture turned into a dream of his life. At the age of 17, he took part in a local amateur filmmaker competition, presenting to the jury a short film about a monster that destroys a city. To give realism to his creation, he first used the so-called "stop-motion" animation and provided the film with several more special effects invented by him. However, then the jury did not appreciate the attempt of the young filmmaker.
At 22, Jackson bought a second-hand 16mm camera and made a film with his own funds, which kicked off his lightning career in big cinema. The fantastic comedy "Bad Taste" made a splash not only in the homeland of the aspiring director, but also in Cannes, where the film was directed by Jackson's acquaintances. In 1990, at the Fantafestival in Rome, Bad Taste (in the Russian box office - Alien Stew) was awarded the Audience Award. Peter Jackson's first truly professional feature film was the horror comedy Living Carrion (1992). The film won Jackson an impressive number of genre awards, including the Grand Prix at the 1993 Avoriaz International Fantastic Film Festival.
