Born in North Carolina to Yvonne Norton and Robert Potts. She grew up in Virginia until she moved with her family to Miami, Florida at age 12. In the eighth grade, she became a model. She then began practicing acting with her new teen show, Hall Pass. Li did not graduate from high school, and instead took the California High School Proficiency exam.
