Born on March 17, 1920 in the village of Bronnitsy, Moscow Region. Returning from the front, he enrolled in animation courses at Soyuzmultfilm, which he graduated in 1948. He made his directorial debut in 1962. At first he shot fairy tales for the little ones - "Zheltik", "Chunya", "Uncle Misha". The most famous film in this series is "Little Mouse's Song", thanks to which several generations of matured kids still sing: "What a wonderful day, what a wonderful tree stump ..."
In the 1970s, Yuri Prytkov became interested in educational and cognitive topics. He filmed about the first telephones and about "one and a half miners", about Archimedes' laws and the invisibility hat in the pioneer camp. Then on the screen appeared the merry fellow Ah and the loafers Oh, whom the director sent on a campaign a year later. He again became interested in cinema for babies and in the 1980s made a number of witty cartoons, the best of which was "It'll Go!" about the loser hare.
The production designer for almost all of Yuri Prytkov's films was his wife Tatyana Sazonova. After retiring, they worked together to illustrate children's books. He died on January 15, 2011 in Moscow. Urn with ashes in the columbarium of the Novodevichy cemetery (section 14).
