Started painting in early childhood.
In 1962 he graduated with honors from the Yerevan Art School.
In 1967, against the will of his parents, he left for Moscow to enter the art department of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK).
In 1968, Levon Khachatryan met his future wife, Larisa, and in 1970 his daughter Maria was born.
In 1973, after graduating from VGIK, he returned to Yerevan and worked at the “Armenfilm” studio. In three years, four animated films were shot. He also acted as a scriptwriter and director.
In 1975 he finally moved to his family in Moscow and began work at the Soyuzmultfilm studio. For seven years, eight cartoons have been published, including "Bobik Visiting Barbos" and two series "Prostokvashino". The famous screen image of the postman Pechkin was completely invented by Levon Khachatryan.
At the same time he was engaged in book and magazine graphics, caricature.
Since 1983 - freelance graphic artist.
