Legendary reader, actor, teacher, People's Artist of Russia, professor, full member of the Academy of Humanities Yakov Smolensky (real name Lieberman) was born in hungry Petrograd in 1920. Books took him to the world of the heroic past, the teenager dreamed of travel and adventure. It is no coincidence that after graduating from school, the Philology Department of Leningrad University became his choice.

From 1957 until the last days of his life, Yakov Smolensky has been working at the Moscow Philharmonic - he is called a virtuoso reader who can hold the audience's attention for several hours. The actor's friendliness, sociability, enormous creative experience become decisive when he is appointed to the position of head of the speech department organized at the Shchukin school. For more than twenty years, Yakov Smolensky will devote to working with talented young actors - Vasily Lanovoy, Andrei Mironov, Sergei Ursulyak, Maria Aronova and many others will call him their teacher. He will also publish a number of textbooks and theoretical works on the art of stage and artistic speech.
